Paul Klee's "Castle and Sun" was our jumping off piece for this lesson - thanks to this blog, arteascuola, for the idea (and several others I pinned from you)! Castles were great subjects to be drawn on book pages, since so many stories are set around a castle. I have been collecting damaged books for upcycling, and the second graders were excited to use Harry Potter pages for this lesson.
Students made 3 compositional choices: page layout, type of balance (symmetrical or asymmetrical) and warm or cool color scheme. We finished off the designs with a geometric pattern border and a pop of contrasting color.
I love each and every one of these!!! And how cool to get to use Harry Potter pages:)
ReplyDeleteThe diversity here is quite stunning! I love how confidently each student drew their castle!
ReplyDeleteExcellent - love the borders shapes echoing the castle colors on a complementary color mount. It really sets everything off brilliantly! You have re-inspired me to do a project on old book pages .... I'm going to start collecting!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful compositions and a very cool concept.
ReplyDeleteI love how you introduced the children to Paul Klee. What an interesting and fun way to use mixed media as well as reinforce the use of shape.
