Musical Instrument Prints

Fourth graders at Dolvin create a set of styrofoam prints each year.  As we prepare for our Edward Hopper-inspired seascapes this year, I wanted to put together a post on last year's really successful instrument prints to give the students an idea of how this process works.  Thanks to Katie at Abbotts Hill Art Studio for sharing the instrument idea at one of our county art teacher meetings - what a great way to practice contour line.  Sadly, our band and orchestra program ended last year and the students don't have their instruments at school to draw from anymore : (

Matisse-inspired Studio Collages

Third graders have just completed their collages of a studio interior.  We looked at Matisse's Red Studio for ideas when completing our designs.  Some are music and dance studios, some are for photography or movies, and some are art studios.  We began with a very basic instruction on creating perspective in an interior space, then we added details from colorful scraps to be placed in the setting using overlapping.
