O'Keeffe: Fall leaves

First graders looked at the leaf and flower art of Georgia O'Keeffe, noting the large size and close-up point of view. Although many artists draw and paint flowers, Georgia found a way to make hers unique. We drew from an assortment of artificial fall flowers and leaves, filling the space, and used blended crayons to create the glow of color found in O'Keeffe's work. Black and brown watercolor in the background made the color pop.

  1. I am working on abstracted leaves with my 2nd graders right now and I enjoy these leaves that your 1st graders are in the midst of completing! Love the neutrals in the background and thanks for sharing O'Keeffe's leaf print---I'm not familiar with much of her work other than her flowers.
