Fan letters for student artists

**update - get my new Artist Fan letter at my Teachers Pay Teachers store:http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Mrs-Knights-Smartest-Artists
Recently I have seen some great ideas floating around out there about writing compliments and fan letters to student artists during art shows, and it looks like such a great idea. Only problem for me is that our Fine Arts Night show is not really set up for that to work effectively for us. Soooo...
We have hallway bulletin boards for each grade level that are updated with each new project, all year. People are always commenting to me on the great work, which I have always truly appreciated, and I thought maybe THIS was where we could use the fan letters!
I made up a simple form letter that would be quick and easy to complete, but still meaningful. I placed a folder of them in the teachers' mailroom and asked the teachers to fill one out if something caught their eye. They could also do it as a class. Once completed, they place it in my mailbox for delivery to the artist.
We have been talking a lot as a faculty about student ownership and taking responsibilty for their own learning, and I think this is a good way for them to reap some of the rewards. Just got the first one in my mailbox today - can't wait to deliver it to the deserving student artist!

  3. This is actually something I'm going to be working on this weekend as well! I've seen the "artist fan box" floating around Pinterest and decided I want to make a box for outside my room. I'll hand out forms to teachers and leave some outside my room so people can fill them out and place them in the box for delivery! LOVE this idea...and it'll help with boosting my APPR score...collegiality and giving the students positive reinforcement!

  4. Ooooh this is a great idea! I only have one bulletin board so I might put some sheets in a plastic pocket and hang it up as part of the bulletin board and who ever wants to fill one out can! Thanks for sharing

  5. Great idea. I hadn't seen it on pinterest, yet but what a wonderful way to boost artistic confidence.

I will find a way to have this work for my students.
