Seasonal reduction prints by 5th grade

My fifth graders spent a good portion of the second nine week period creating reduction prints. Students selected a seasonal image representing fall or winter and drew the basic outlines on a piece of printing styrofoam. We printed that layer, then reduced the printing foam surface by drawing details, textures, and background before printing again with a new color. Some students made further reductions to the plate by cutting away the background and printing a third color. Here are my teacher examples:

The following pics are student prints, made with Dick Blick printing ink and construction paper.

Pop Art Prints by 4th grade

Fourth graders made a series of styrofoam plate prints using Pop Art images inspired by Andy Warhol and everyday life. Repetition is a common theme in Pop Art, as is bright random color. We drew thumbnails on paper, selected the best one, and transferred to foam by placing the paper over the foam and tracing the lines so the pencil pushed into the foam. We used Dick Blick printing ink and construction paper.

Cardinals by 3rd grade

Third graders made beautiful cardinal hanging sculptures from cardboard and yarn that can be hung in a window, on a tree, or any other spot that needs brightening up this winter. We used a variety of thick and thin textured yarns to represent the feathers of the cardinal.
