Making Art in the Media Center!!!

In honor of Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's recent birthday, art and music held some classes in the media center today - very exciting to share our love of reading through integration! Art teachers integrate other subjects day-in and day-out; how can you not when art is a reflection of life experiences? Math, science, history, reading, writing, technology... It's all there, all the time!
My kindergarteners (2 classes at once) looked at examples of landscapes such as Whoville and described the fantasy look of the places in the Seuss books. We folded and rolled paper strips to make a paper sculpture resembling this style. We used little printed characters to add that extra touch - this was a one-time only large group lesson so the printed characters were perfect for our short time together. Thanks to Ms. O'Shea for allowing the noise and mess of the art room to invade the media center today - it was so much fun!
